After surgery, swelling and bruising may occur in the nose. This swelling and bruising usually subsides within the first few weeks after surgery. After surgery, the nose is covered with packing for approximately 6 weeks. These packings are used to prevent blood and fluids placed during surgery from draining out.
The recovery process after rhinoplasty surgery usually takes 6-12 months. During this time, swelling and bruising in the nose disappear completely. It usually takes 1-2 years for the nose shape to completely settle.
So, while the rhinoplasty surgery itself takes a few hours, the recovery process usually takes 6-12 months.
