Is one of the questions I encounter most often. We answer this question that patients ask most after surgery for you. Answers to these and similar questions about rhinoplasty can also be found by visiting our page.
Let’s talk about when you will fully regain your nose health after rhinoplasty; Even though your nose is misshapen and prevents you from breathing comfortably, it is a fact that it does not carry some risks compared to the post-operative period. In other words, rhinoplasty carries some risks, like all surgeries after rhinoplasty.
Rhinoplasty is a surgery also known as nose aesthetics. It is done to improve the shape, size and proportion of the nose. Rhinoplasty can be performed for both cosmetic and functional reasons. Cosmetic rhinoplasty is done to improve the appearance of the nose, while functional rhinoplasty is done to relieve nasal congestion or improve breathing.
It takes an average of 6-12 months for the nose shape to fully fit after rhinoplasty. This period may vary depending on the scope of the surgery, the structure of the nose and the healing process of the patient.
There are three stages to adjust the nose shape after rhinoplasty:
- First stage: Edema
Swelling and edema in the nose occur in the first few weeks after surgery. This swelling is caused by damage to tissues and blood vessels during surgery. Edema reaches its peak in the first 1-2 months after surgery and then gradually decreases.
- Second stage: Scarring
As the edema decreases, scarring begins in the tissues. Scarring is part of the healing process of tissues. Scarring is most intense in the first 6 months after surgery and then gradually decreases.
- Third stage: Final shaping
After scarring is completed, the nose shape begins to take its final form. This process is completed within the first 12 months after surgery. However, in some cases, it may take up to 2 years for the nose shape to be fully adjusted.
There are some points that the patient should pay attention to in order to adjust the nose shape after rhinoplasty:
- Following the doctor’s recommendations after surgery
The doctor will give some recommendations to facilitate the post-operative recovery process. Following these recommendations will help speed up the healing process.
- protect your nose
It is important to protect your nose from bumps, blows or trauma after surgery. This will help prevent distortion of the nose shape.
- not smoking
Smoking can slow nose healing. Therefore, it is recommended that you do not smoke for at least 6 months after surgery.
It is important to be patient so that the nose shape fits perfectly after rhinoplasty. This period may vary depending on the scope of the surgery, the structure of the nose and the healing process of the patient.
